Fused and Textured Bangles with Marne Ryan
Class Description
Students will learn how to fuse layers of sterling silver into rich patterns with the opportunity to fuse with their gold as well. Then use their textured sheets to make a beautiful highly dimensional bangle bracelet.
Class level: Beginner - Soldering experience necessary

Half Round Pliers
Joyce Chen Scissors -or- Wire Snips
Bench Hammer
Nova Charcoal Block**
Hardwood Charcoal Block**
Saw Frame and 4/0 saw blades
1/2’ Round Die punch is you have one
4-ounce Riveting Hammer
Smaller Delron Hammer
#1or 2 Cut -l 20 cm needle files: barrette, Cross Cut, Triangular etc.
#1or 2 Cut 6” Large files – Barrette / safety, Cross Cut or 1/2 round
6 or 12 ruler
small 3” plastic spray bottle for flux
Selection of tweezers to use for soldering and soldering pick
Thin Gauge bonding wire to wrap the charcoal blocks
Thin Line Magic Markers

Materials Kit* (provided by instructor)
Metal Supplies – I use Sterling from TB Hagstoz & Sons because it always
works. The students will personalize their kit to make their preferred texture. It
will contain enough metal to make the class project. .
I bring extra metal for purchase
Students must use the silver from the kit to fuse first (kit price - $50. - $100.) - then may use any personal sterling silver or gold that's solder-free.
*Materials kit purchase is required for all our workshops. The kit insures all students have the same tools and materials required to learn the technique and allows the instructor and the students to focus on the technique rather than the materials.
About the Instructor
Marne Ryan is an independent studio artist. She is also a recipient of the Rolex Award for excellence in metals, an American finalist in the DeBeers Diamond competition and a multiple award winner in the Japanese Pearl competitions. She has been exploring and teaching the process of making textures through fire since 1976. Her jewelry and vessels have been exhibited in the United States, Japan, Europe and Australia. Her work is in the permanent collection of The American Craft Museum in New York, and is shown at The Philadelphia Museum and The Smithsonian Craftshows, Signature Stadtischaan Museum in Germany and The Kalmar Museum in Sweden. Articles on her work include Ornament Magazine, Lapidary Journal and the books Contemporary American Jewelry Design, by Ettagale Blauer, and Fold Forming Techniques, by Charles Lewton- Brain. She has produced and published an instructional DVD set called “Organic Metals.”

- Students may cancel up to 10 business days prior to the start of the class and receive a full refund, less $10 processing.
- Cancellations 5-10 business days prior to the start of the class are eligible for a 50% refund.
- Cancellations occurring less than 5 business days prior to the start date will not be refunded,
- In the event we have to cancel a class, students will be notified prior to the start date and will be issued a full refund.
