The Ancient and Abstract
with Jessica Jordan Coté

Class Description
This one day class focuses on the creation of a thoughtfully constructed ring or pendant, built of sterling silver and inspired by the circular structure of a volcano. Students will work to manipulate surface textures and simple forms through the use of old and new smithing techniques, very few tools, and lots of fire. An excellent class for students looking to practice basic soldering skills, learn some texturizing tricks, and create uncommon art from common shapes. Techniques covered will include design mapping, sawing, fusing, sweat soldering, layering and embellishing, and tube setting.
Prerequisites
students should have a basic knowledge of soldering and sawing
About the Instructor
A grauduate of North Carolina State University’s College of Design, Jessica has a bachelor’s degree in Art & Design as well as metals experience gleaned both at the John C.
