Class Description
Taking an architectural approach to jewelry, students will work through a number of fabrication techniques, improving their soldering skills along the way. They will explore three-dimensional forms to create sculptural objects. Class projects will present opportunities to hone order-of-operations and problem-solving skills. Students will come away with several samples and hopefully one or two finished pieces.

Some of the topics and techniques that will be covered in the workshop include:
slotted construction, wire work, scoring/folding, hollow construction, brooch mechanisms and found objects.

We ran this class in 2018 and students loved it!

Prerequisites
Basic metalsmithing skills required.

About the Instructor

Lauren Markley was born and raised in Kansas and currently resides in Raleigh, NC.  Her jewelry, at once both small-scale sculpture as well as ornament for the body, is a personal interpretation of her immediate surroundings. She uses architectural forms and distressed surface treatments, such as scratches, burns, and peeling paint, in her current body of work.  Her jewelry can be found in galleries and boutiques around the United States, as well as in Belgium, Korea, and Malaysia. You can visit her website at Lauren Markely Jewelry.
