Found Objects Workshop with Jamie McLandsborough

Class Description
Have you wanted to incorporate a found or treasured object into jewelry, but didn't know how? In this hands-on workshop, students will use found objects as the centerpiece for at least one piece of jewelry. We'll discuss cutting and shaping unusual materials ad creative attachments with a strong focus on design starting with concept drawing through execution.
Some of the techniques we may use in the class include sand casting with Delft clay, using the mill to break down wire and sheet different sizes, making rivets, creating clasps, learning to build your own basket settings, stone cutting, carving and piercing stone and metal, forging, forming textures and resin. This class has the potential to encompass many jewelry techniques and may require some homework time.
About the Instructor
Jamie Mclandsborough has been working in the jewelry field for 20 years, since he was first introduced to soldering by a wonderful high school art teacher. Jamie has apprenticed, taken courses through GIA, tested with the Jewelers of America and studied extensively but still believes there is no better way to learn than a little bit of knowledge and a whole lot of experimentation. Jamie currently works as a bench jeweler at Gusterman’s Silversmiths in Downtown Denver, served on the Board of CoMA, and takes classes anywhere he can, most recently right here in the BoMA studio.
