Class Description
In close observation many botanical forms evolve from simple flat shapes- which are easily interpreted in metal sheet.
In this 2-day workshop students will learn how to develop patterns from nature forms, and create those forms in thin sheet to add lightweight dimensional richness to jewelry.
The first day will include patternmaking demonstrations and guidance in making samples in ‘jewelers brass’ (an alloy which is very malleable and most resembles the color of 14k gold)
The second day students may choose:
· to create forms for finished pendants or earrings in the metal of their choice – metals may include sterling, jewelers brass, or mild steel,
· OR be guided in further pattern exploration/samples.
Working methods for steel sheet construction, and tips for soldering complex looking compositions will also be covered.
Prerequisites
Basic sawing, filing and soldering skills required
