Metalsmithing Essentials for Jewelers with Colin Miller

Class Description
This class is designed for people who want to learn basic jewelry making skills. Measuring, filing, sawing, piercing, soldering, bezel fabrication, bezel setting, and bezel setting, as well as some finishing techniques will be covered in four evening sessions.
Tools and equipment including burnishers, saw frames, pliers, and mandrels will be available in the studio and a materials kit is required and can be purchased on the first day of class. Students will leave the final class with a ring, a pendant, and a pair of earrings.
Only four seats are available this hands-on workshop, ensuring plenty of individual instruction.
Materials Kit* (provided by instructor)
8 gauge half round sterling silver wire
1" square piece of 20 gauge sterling silver sheet
1 - 12 x 10mm onyx cab
6mm round onyx cabs
A piece of fine silver bezel wire
Earring posts and nuts
14 gauge round sterling silver wire
20 gauge round sterling silver wire
Saw blades, drill bits and solder
*Materials kit purchase is required for all our workshops. The kit insures all students have the same tools and materials required to learn the technique and allows the instructor and the students to focus on the technique rather than the materials.
About the Instructor
Colin Miller is a second generation jeweler who's worn many hats in the jewelry world, from apprentice to bench jeweler in retail, from independent studio jeweler to production jeweler for other artists. He hopes to share his wealth of experience with those yearning to express their creativity through wearable art, and to learn a thing or two himself.
Maximum six (4) students. All participants will be required to sign a waiver.
