Basic fabrication skills with hand tools and torches. Some stone setting experience would be helpful.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Jim received his BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and his MFA from the Tyler School of Art and has been making a living as a jewelry designer since 1984 when he worked for Maui Divers in Hawaii. Jim has taught at the University of Oregon, Portland University and more recently at the Central Oregon Community College.  He's also taught many jewelry making workshops and classes across the country.

Check out his website to see more of Jim's work!

TOOLS STUDENTS NEED TO BRING
Students will need to bring:
  • 2 or more- 2mm thick silver band rings.  Any width will work, but I would suggest about 6mm wide.  This should be made before hand and  brought to class if possible.
  • drill bits- #55-1.3mm in diameter (at least 1, but several would be best)
  • 1 each- setting bur- 1.9mm, 5mm
  • 1 each- bud bur- 1.6mm
  • beading tool set (https://www.riogrande.com/product/beading-tools-set-of-12/113340)
  • optics for close up work
  • any personal hand tools that they enjoy using
  • any gem stones that they may have (preferably faceted)
  • any projects that are already made that they would like to set stones in to
  • Students should bring any and all hand tools that they would normally bring to a workshop including, but not limited to, good optics
  • cash or a check for the materials kit

Clothing: closed toed shoes and avoid wearing polyester, it can be flammable.

MATERIALS KIT (Tools/equipment and materials/consumables instructor will supply for a fee): $20
  • 2mm czs (10 per student included)
  • 5mm cz (1 per student included)
  • 3-4mm (or close to it) copper rod
  • micro burnisher
*Materials kit purchase is required for all our workshops. The kit insures all students have the same tools and materials require to learn the technique and allows the instructor and the students to focus on the technique rather than the materials.

CANCELLATION POLICY
  • You may cancel up to 45 days prior to the start of the class and receive a full refund, less $25 processing. To cancel, send an email to info@bouldermetalsmiths.com.
  • Cancellations less than 45 days prior to the start date will not be refunded.
  • In the event we have to cancel a class, you will be notified prior to the start date and will be issued a full refund.
  • Registration is not transferrable. You may not sell your seat to another student.
  • If a class has multiple sessions, and you miss one, there is no make up opportunity and the instructor will not catch you up at the next class session. You may not join the next scheduled class, as there’s a maximum number of students for every class and it’s not fair to the other students.
  • Please plan extra time to find us if you’re coming to BoMA for the first time. If you are late to a class, the instructor will not catch you up. There’s a structured curriculum for every class and its not fair to other students to skip part of the curriculum to catch up a student who’s late.
  • By clicking on the “I’m going” button and by paying the registration fee, you are agreeing to this cancellation policy.
  • No Exceptions.
