Handmade chains enhance jewelry. In this class students will learn how to use BoMA’s new mini Arc welders and laser welder to make different kinds of chains, different ways to create links and how to make custom size jump rings fast. Students will practice with different types of arc welder and a laser welder to make samples of different types of chain or students can choose to focus on one style to create a longer chain.
About the instructor:
Chapin Dimond is a full-time professional metalsmith and jeweler. In 2003 he began his adventure exploring metalsmithing. From Metropolitan State College of Denver, he earned a BFA in Art: Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing. Chapin is a Colorado native. His work is inspired by nature and the beauty of metals. Metalsmithing is the process of telling stories through metal, releasing the inner “feeling” of what metal wants to be. Swing that hammer, light that torch, and see that magic happen. To see Chapin’s work, visit his website, www.cdimond.com
Prerequisites for students (if any): BoMA level 1 class or equivalent, a hammer, flex shaft, and a jeweler’s saw, can be helpful to know how to use a torch, and solder. We will be doing a little soldering (not much).
Tools and equipment students should bring:
Materials kit $15 (Tools/equipment and materials/consumables instructor will supply for a fee):
Maximum number of students: 8. All participants will be required to sign a waiver. Participants must be 18 or older.
