Design to Fabrication
“Narrative in Jewelry”
Hand Fabricated Pendant
with Camille Rendal

CLASS DESCRIPTION
Design of jewelry can be the biggest hurdle in creating a piece. Additionally if you are creating a series, or doing a commission work – you need to know how to create a rendering of your work to present to a client. The workshop takes the students from design to fabrication, it will give you the tools to generate design ideas in sketches. Students will then learn how to make a 3D and plan view rendering of your piece and use that to plan how much metal and materials you need for your project.
Day 1
Design day: First half of the day focuses on design and drawing/rendering/ model making techniques. Texturing and forming Demo. We will then experiment as a group with texturing techniques and one on one consult on fabrication questions. Each student will be designing and working on an individual and unique project. The theme of the pendant though will be “Narrative” – creating a work that tells a story. The pendant will have representational as opposed to abstract forms.
Work day: Fabrication day to work on your piece. Students will work on their final project with the help of instructor. Each student will be working on a project of their choice with the instructors help.
Depending upon the complexity of your artwork you may not finish the piece in this workshop, but will have the information to complete it in the studio after the workshop.
