Sand Casting with Chapin Dimond

CLASS DESCRIPTION
​
In this class students will learn the basics and principles of green sand casting, make their own green casting sand and cast an object. The class will also touch on red sand and delft clay casting. At the end of class, each student will have their own green casting sand with casting frame and a cast object. 

​ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Chapin Dimond is a full-time metalsmith and jeweler. He has a BFA from Metropolitan State University of Denver. Chapin is a Colorado native. In 2003 he began learning metalsmithing. His work is inspired by nature and the beauty of metals. To see Chapin’s work, visit his website, www.cdimond.com.

Prerequisites
Students should be comfortable with using a torch, files and flexshaft

Tools students need to bring
  • Student can carve a shape from foam or bring a small object to create sand mold shape (object must have no undercuts and the size must be no larger than 1 inch x 1 inch  x 1 inch)
  • Carving tools
  • If you prefer to to cast in silver, bring your own sterling silver casting grain or clean sterling silver scrap with no solder

Materials Kit* $55
  • Materials need to make green sand
  • Foam
  • Sand mold frames
  • Wood blocks
  • Copper
*Materials kit purchase is required for all BoMA workshops. The kit insures all students have the same tools and materials require to learn the technique and allows the instructor and the students to focus on the technique rather than the materials.

MAXIMUM NUMBER OF STUDENTS: 6. Students will be required to sign a waiver. Participants must be 18 or older.

CANCELLATION POLICY
  • You may cancel up to 10 business days prior to the start of the class and receive a full refund, less $10 processing.
  • Cancellations 5-10 business days prior to the start of the class are eligible for a 50% refund.
  • Cancellations occurring less than 5 business days prior to the start date will not be refunded,
  • In the event we have to cancel a class, you will be notified prior to the start date and will be issued a full refund.
