In jewelry, hinging mechanisms are a type of connection between two parts that allows them to pivot around a fixed point. In this 2 day class, learn how to make two different hinging mechanisms. Students will create hinged back/locking earrings and a brooch with a stainless steel pin. These mechanisms are can both be finished in two days.

Argentium has advantages over sterling silver, and requires some considerations when working with it. Come to this class to learn how take advantage of the differences and work successfully in Argentium.

The main difference between Argentium and sterling silver is its composition.  Argentium  contains  germanium along with more pure silver than sterling. This unique addition of germanium gives Argentium  attributes such as increased tarnish resistance, a whiter colour, antibacterial and hypoallergenic properties and a firestain-free surface. Additionally, Argentium can be fused and welded more easily than sterling silver.
Prerequisites
This is an intermediate class. Basic metalsmithing skills (sawing, soldering, etc.) are required.

Dress Code
Closed-toed shoes and a tie for long hair are required in the studio.
