In this workshop, participants will be guided through the art of crafting two types of anticlastic rings: the beloved spinner ring and an elegant hollow bead ring. Even though some prior metal experience is recommended, I have successfully seen complete novices excel in this class (although they may not finish the second ring).
Throughout the workshop, you will learn the meticulous process of skillfully hammering a flat sheet of metal into a beautifully curved ring featuring a captivating spinning center. Furthermore, you will embark on creating a raised hollow form ring, adorned with delicate beads in the center.
This ancient Irish technique, with a history spanning over 2500 years, is known as Anticlastic Raising. Metal artists and jewelers commonly employ this technique to infuse a captivating 3-dimensional aspect into their creations. The process can be easily adapted to various types of jewelry with just a few simple steps and regular practice.
As an added treat, I will delve into the history of this traditional method and enlighten you about the indispensable tools essential to this trade. My research and time spent in Ireland have given me valuable insights into the roots and evolution of this art form.
Come join me in this creative journey, and together, we will celebrate the time-honored tradition of Anticlastic Raising while honing your skills and unleashing your artistic potential.
Prerequisites
All levels welcome, but basic metalsmithing skills (sawing, soldering, etc.) will be greatly helpful.

About the Instructor
"I have been dreaming and living jewelry since I started making it as a child. In college, I took my dreams of making jewelry a step further and pursued metalsmithing classes. Then after college I found the Sweetman Allen studio. I would spend endless hours at this studio. Richard Sweetman, who I have named many of my pieces after was an invaluable resource for learning traditional jewelry techniques.
Some of the inspiration for my pieces come from the time I spent in Ireland. The jewelry studio was in the old altar where mass was held. The things I learned there and the beautiful surroundings still inspire me to this day and you will see the beauty of Ireland and my current surroundings in all of my designs. "
Students Must Bring
Maximum number of students: 10. Students will be required to sign a waiver. Participants must be 18 or older.
