CLASS DESCRIPTION
Using a torch, students will learn various methods of line creation and imagery in enamel. In this workshop, we will also explore how successive layers of liquid, acrylic, transparent or opaque powdered enamels, can impact your work and learn techniques such as sgraffito, graphite, sifting, firescale, acid-etching, painting, and more. Under firing, maturity firing & over-firing will be utilized in building and preserving drawings and layers in the final piece. Cold-connection and minimal soldering options for your piece(s) will be covered.
Students will have ample time to play and explore these exciting enameling techniques!! Typically, students will be able to finish several enameled pieces during the class.

About the Instructor
Anne has been an independent studio artist for 17 years, teaching workshops and exhibiting in juried fine craft shows. Her recent exhibitions, collections, and publications include: Alchemy4, the Juried International Enamel Exhibition of The Enamelist Society, Art Jewelry Today 4, Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist's “How to Enamel Jewelry”, Enamel Arts Foundation acquisitions for their permanent collection, The Art of Enamelling/The Enamelling Technique, The Technical Museum in Brno, Brno, Czech Republic, 2018 Blaze: International Art Enamel, National Taiwan Craft Research & Development Institute and Chinese Taipei Enamel Arts Association, and Contemporary Enamel, traveling to Turkey, Italy, and North Carolina.
Anne is currently Treasurer of The Enamelist Society, Pocosin Arts, and Enamel Guild North East.

- Enable new students of enameling to be able to continue to torch-fire at home after the class.
- Present those who are already enameling new information about torch-firing and/or enameling techniques that they may not have in their skill sets.
- Inspire more people to pursue the art of enameling, generate enthusiasm, and increase the dialogue around the art-form, even if they choose to use their skills with a kiln.
- Completed enamel piece(s) that the student can take away from the workshop
- Demonstrate while torch-firing is not necessarily hard, it is a more time-consuming process than kiln firing, and the exciting differences between the two methods of firing.
- Help each student with their vision
- Learn from each other. Everyone has something to offer.

Tools and equipment students should bring
- Tinted eye protection. (Arrow Springs. Choose what you like best; no need to spend the big $$.)
- Dust/fumes mask. (I bought this on ebay for $40: NORTH BY HONEYWELL 7781P100M, North 7700 Series
- A couple old magazines or catalogues
- Drill bits for riveting and or earwire holes, etc. mostly sizes 61-69
- Fairly fine paint brushes—at least 2. (Some of my favorites are thompson m-16B brush for one of them, Blick Master Natural Brush - Round, 3/0 Item#: 05832-7030 . Blick Master Natural Brush - Round, Size 0 Item#: 05832-1000. blick items 05837-1001 and 05837-1002. you can use all these blick brushes as a guide to the sizes to buy.)
- Saw frame and blades, 2/0 or 3/0 being best.
- Wax lubricant for saw blades and bits.
- Files
- Cutters
- Eye dropper
- Sandpaper in 150 or 220 grit or appropriate wheels which can be used with flex shaft
- One plastic container with lid, about 16oz size, for glass etchall
- Copper sheet - 22 gauge and copper shapes you might already own. We start small, with shapes or pieces under 1”. try not bringing anything lighter than 24 gauge.
- Small trivets, if if you have them (The 2 smallest sizes Thompson #'s TPT-1 Three Point Trivet1-1/4" D. 1-1/4" H. and TPT-2 Three Point Trivet - 2" d. 1-1/2" h.)
- Dental tools, if you have them
- Any unleaded transparent enamels you already have - leaded are not legal in a classroom environment. Opaques also, but not always used. (If you want to pursue this, thompson sells their item called “sample C” which is 1 oz of EVERY color they make. It's about $110 and just fantastic, with more than 150 colors.)
- Graphite pencils (HB, 2B & 4B. A lovely diverse package is available at Michael's for $4.95)
- Sakura micron pen 005 (.2mm) (Full set on Amazon Sakura 30062 6-Piece Pigma Micron Ink Pen Set, Black)
- We are using only lead-free enamels in this class. Don’t bring leaded enamels with you to class!

- Cancellations less than 14 days prior to the start date will not be refunded,
- In the event we have to cancel a class, you will be notified prior to the start date and will be issued a full refund.
- Registration is not transferrable. You may not sell your seat to another student.
